We are a team of 3 people and we carry a strong impact on Temporal’s success:)
We’re hiring an additional Data Engineer to our team.
In order to reliably automate the world and improve the lives of developers by providing powerful abstractions for software that hide complexity, we need data to support our actions. First, it is important for us to know just how much of the world we’re helping to automate by collecting, storing, and reporting data related to companies, developers, workflows, and actions, among other things, to measure our impact. Next, we supply information across the organization to support operations so that each team at Temporal has the information they need to run the systems they design and implement. Finally, we discover and surface insights, both internally, and to our customers, that highlight inefficiencies, successes, failures, and opportunities in order to optimize Temporal’s adoption and growth.
The Data Engineering and Analytics team is uniquely positioned to collaborate with many teams across Temporal including Sales, Marketing, Finance, Product, Engineering, Developer Success, Developer Relations, and HR. We regularly meet with members of these teams when they have a need or opportunity, listen to what they are trying to accomplish, then provide recommendations and solutions where appropriate. We place a strong emphasis on understanding the objective or intent first, rather than jumping straight to delivering data. This ensures we continually develop our understanding of how the business operations, as well as safeguards against unnecessary iterations and rework.
Temporal’s value of Focus and Alignment is at the core of what the Data Engineering and Analytics team does. The work we do is based on the objective of helping the various teams across Temporal align what metrics matter most to reach our shared objectives, and to drive focus towards the things with the greatest potential impact to those objectives. Additionally, Temporal’s value of Quality Outcomes dovetails nicely with the work we do to achieve focus and alignment. We help to measure the outcomes of the work we do across Temporal so as to identify areas where we are improving and highlight those areas in which there is room to improve.
One key characteristic that is required for success within the Data Engineering and Analytics team in its current state is the ability to deliver quality solutions across the entire data stack, from ingestion through reporting. Individuals who are both comfortable and excited to work across all major components of a data platform have the opportunity to be successful on this team. Attention to detail and the ability to think across the entire data lifecycle are also characteristics required for success on this team. Finally, individuals who are curious about what the data we collect, store, report, and analyze means to Temporal’s day to day operations and overall success are likely to do well on this team.
In a word: impact. Each day, we ingest more data about how our customers use our product, how our potential customers learn about our product, and how our teams support the needs of our customers and future customers. As we identify new rich data sources and continue to add volume from the ones we currently have, exploring and identifying patterns and signals in that data to help Temporal make better decisions is our highest order and the most impactful thing we can do.
